Father Rodom, a devout priest of the Light, spent 30 grueling years performing countless marriage rituals, wearing a magically forced smile to mask his struggles. Despite his unwavering dedication, the life of a priest brought him little reward—poverty gnawed at him, leaving him unable to afford even a modest meal. Rodom's faith wavered, his complaints echoing in the ears of the town's Mayor, who grew weary of his grievances.
Hoping to silence the priest, the Mayor assigned him a simple task: accompany a group of adventurers to collect gold owed by a lumber town. There was supposed to be no danger, no drama—just a straightforward errand. However, the adventurers had other plans. Wherever they went, chaos followed.
Rodom's patience was tested to its limits as he endured one calamity after another: he was struck down in combat, turned to stone by an unfortunate encounter, and subjected to their recklessness at every turn. By the time the group returned, the priest was utterly drained. Seeking justice, he filed a formal complaint with the Holy Order of the Light, requesting a bounty on the adventurers who had tormented him. But the Order dismissed his plea, leaving Rodom feeling betrayed by the faith he had served for decades.
While traveling to a nearby town in hopes of finding refuge, Rodom's journey was cut short by a band of bandits. Alone and defenseless, he succumbed to his wounds. At last, he believed, he would find rest—his torment finally at an end.
But the Queen of Spirits had other plans. She appeared to Rodom, her voice soft yet commanding, offering him a proposition.
“Oh, weary soul,” she whispered, “devote yourself to me, and I shall grant you peace. No longer will you suffer under the weight of the Light’s neglect. Serve me, and I will give you better conditions than you could ever dream.”
Rodom hesitated, his bitterness bubbling to the surface. “Better conditions?” he scoffed. “What do you mean by that? Vacation days? Less dealing with lunatics?”
The Queen of Spirits chuckled. “Yes, my tired lamb. You shall have time for yourself, freedom from mortal suffering, and a purpose greater than the Light ever provided. But you must serve me, and in doing so, save the lost souls the Darkness has stolen from my Cycle of Rebirth.”
The offer was too tempting to refuse. With a scornful tone, Rodom replied, “Fine. It’s better than what I had before.”
And so, Rodom renounced the Light, his bond severed after decades of unwavering service. He became the Priest of Souls, devoted to the Queen of Spirits. Free from his earthly burdens, he embraced his new role, finally granted the peace and dignity he had always sought.
