Spell
120

You touch a creature that has been dead for no more than 10 days, calling its soul back to its body.

If the creature’s soul is willing and free to return, it is restored to life with 1V.

This spell neutralizes any poisons and cures nonmagical diseases afflicting the creature at the time of death. It does not remove magical diseases, curses, or similar effects; if these remain, they resume affecting the creature upon its return. This spell cannot restore life to undead creatures.

The spell mends all mortal wounds but does not regenerate missing body parts. If the creature lacks vital organs or limbs necessary for survival—such as its head—the spell fails.

Returning from death is a harrowing ordeal. The GM may impose conditions such as Exhaustion, madness, or other lingering effects to reflect the trauma.

Optional Rules (Matt Mercer Resurrection House Rules):

  1. Contribution Phase Up to three party members may contribute to the resurrection ritual by performing a skill check based on their chosen form of contribution. The GM determines the appropriate skill for each contribution (e.g., Religion for a prayer, Performance for an inspiring eulogy, or Medicine for tending to the body).
  2. Skill Check Difficulty The GM sets the Difficulty Class (DC) for each contribution skill check based on the relevance and impact of the contribution to the ritual. For example:
  3. Highly impactful contributions (e.g., a heartfelt plea to the deity tied to the spell) might have a lower DC (10–12).
  4. Less impactful or tangential contributions (e.g., a generic offering) might have a higher DC (15–18).
  5. Final Resurrection Check After all contributions are resolved, the GM makes a single, final resurrection success check using a d20 with no modifiers. The base DC for this check is 10, increased by 1 for each previous successful resurrection the character has undergone (representing the soul's weakening connection to the material plane).
  6. Impact of Contributions Each successful contribution skill check reduces the final resurrection check DC by 3.
  7. Each failed contribution skill check increases the final resurrection check DC by 1.
  8. Tracking Past Resurrections Players must record the number of times their character has been successfully resurrected. Each prior resurrection increases the base DC of future resurrection checks by 1.

You kneel beside the lifeless body, placing your hands gently on it. A soft, golden glow spreads from your fingertips, seeping into the corpse. Wounds close, breath stirs faintly, and life slowly returns to their form.
