A bare, woody shrub rustles in the breeze, its spindly branches rattling. The shrub shifts suddenly, its roots pulling themselves from the soil as the plant rises and shifts. The gnarled branches twist and coil together, forming a stunted, gangly humanoid body complete with stout legs and lanky arms that end in thorny claws. A knot of branches shifts until it resembles a head atop the thing’s shoulders, complete with the hollow impressions of two dark, placid eyes. The creature frees itself from the soil and stalks forward with an unnerving, rasping roar like the creaking boughs of a withered tree.
