A jolt of horror erases reason—a stalagmite morphs, revealing a single red, blinking eye over a slobbering, fanged maw. Tendrils lash out, ensnaring the unwary for a meal. Its rocky hide, resilient against all but the mightiest strikes, turns a seemingly innocuous formation into a treacherous predator in the blink of an eye.

Ropers are ambush predators resembling stalagmites in caves, evolving from a Piercer Slug. They extend sticky tendrils from six body nubs to weaken and reel in prey, digesting nearly everything except platinum, gems, and magic items. Their acidic gizzard juices are prized alchemical solvents.
