Glossy varnish beautifies this thin mahogany case, which has brass hinges and a fancy latch. Black velvet covers the interior, and loops in this cloth keep a dozen pen nibs of varied shapes in place. A lacquered wooden stylus lays in a compartment beside a brush and feathered pen. Larger slots contain a pen stand, a few ink bottles of differing hues, a pouch of drying powder, and red sealing wax.
