In this wooden case are a sextant of steel and brass, steel calipers, and a steel measuring rod. A cloth pads a lodestone compass housed in brass and glass. Beside it are a fine lead stylus, pens, and ink. Under the instruments are maps and blank parchment.
This black-lacquered wooden case has iron hinges and latches. Inside, its leather interior contains a few quills, ink, a bag of drying powder, a small notebook, and leaves of parchment. Strapped onto the lid bottom are calipers, a ruler, a drawing compass, a lodestone compass, and a cross-staff. Most of the implements are made of plain steel, but the cross-staff is polished wood and metal.
