Flaw
Term

A flaw is a character trait or aspect of their personality that represents a weakness or imperfection. Flaws can lead the character astray, create challenges for them, and add complexity to their development and interactions within the narrative. They humanize the character and make them more relatable, as everyone has flaws in real life.

  • Hot-Tempered The character has a quick temper and is easily provoked, often leading to impulsive actions or heated arguments. This flaw can create conflicts with allies or enemies and cause the character to act recklessly.
  • Addictive Personality The character is prone to addictive behaviors, whether it's to substances, gambling, or even an obsession with a particular activity. This flaw can lead them to make poor decisions and prioritize their addiction over more important matters.
  • Insecurity The character struggles with feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. This flaw can manifest in seeking constant validation or avoiding challenges due to fear of failure.
  • Overconfidence The character has an exaggerated belief in their abilities, often underestimating the challenges ahead. This flaw may lead them to take unnecessary risks or be blind to their weaknesses.
  • Greed The character is driven by an insatiable desire for wealth, power, or possessions. This flaw can lead them to prioritize personal gain over the well-being of others.
  • Trust Issues The character finds it difficult to trust others due to past betrayals or traumatic experiences. This flaw may lead to isolation and difficulty forming meaningful relationships.
  • Perfectionism The character has an overwhelming need for perfection in everything they do, making it challenging for them to accept mistakes or compromise with others.
  • Self-Destructive The character engages in self-destructive behavior, consciously or subconsciously harming themselves physically or emotionally. This flaw can add layers of complexity to the character's backstory and motivations.
  • Inflexible Beliefs The character holds rigid beliefs and is unwilling to consider alternative perspectives or change their mind. This flaw can lead to conflicts with others and hinder character growth.
  • Fear of Abandonment The character has a deep-seated fear of being abandoned or rejected by others, which may drive them to act clingy or overly dependent on others.
