Your relationship with reality is frayed. Whereas others take for granted that things are tangible and other peo - ple are real, you often feel a strange disconnect. It can be difficult to maintain your composure when you often feel like nothing is actually real. Your mind grasps at particular things, ideas, or people—like a drowning person would grasp at a log—to anchor you to “reality”.

Roll on or choose an option from the Untethered table to determine what divorced you from reality and what now allows you to maintain the flimsy connection that remains. Additionally, you gain the traits that follow.

Untethered from Reality - Cause
Description
1You stumbled through a portal into a different plane of existence and while you found your way back, you have never been quite the same again.
2You drank a potion of invisibility that had been cursed, gone off, or poisoned. It took a week until you reappeared.
3A mage annoyed by you once cast banishment on you. You came back, but it feels like you left something behind.
4Something controlled your mind for a long time. You have trouble reconnecting with the world and even your own body.
5You once traveled to another, utterly enchanting, plane of existence, such as the Feywild or Elysium. You just can’t tear your mind free from the experience.
6You’ve always had trouble taking anything seriously. Everything and everyone just seem fake.

Description
1There is one close friend you can never lose. You cannot bear being away from them for more than a day.
2A cherished family heirloom reminds you of your place in this world. You can never lose it.
3Your faith is your shield. You hold a strong conviction or belief—woe to you if it should ever be undermined.
4You have a pet that needs you. If not for that pet, you might long have faded.
5There is something you must accomplish, something that yet binds you to this world. But if you achieve it... what then?
6You feel a strong sense of duty—towards a king, a cause, or a country. It grounds you.
