Cursed with excess life, these malicious seeds and spores lie dormant under the skin of their host, waiting patiently for a spark to unleash them. Once unleashed, flowering vines sprout painfully from the creature’s skin and suck away its life to grow ever outward. To the detriment of anything else, these parasitic vines wish to root down and drain their targets completely.
Effect
While affected by an awakened strain of Verdenblight, the infected creature’s levels of Exhaustion can’t be reduced and it must make a DC 12 Constitution Save at the end of every Long Rest following strenuous activity. Failure: The creature gains a level of Exhaustion. Additionally, whenever the blighted creature is knocked Prone, it must make a DC 12 Strength Save. Failure: The vines erupting from the creature's skin embed themselves in the surrounding terrain and root themselves, causing the creature to become Restrained (escape DC 12 )
Transmission & Contraction
Verdenblight originates from cursed seeds and spores which must be implanted under the skin of a targeted creature, through either inhalation or forceful acts. The spores must then be exposed to a source of magical life in order to become awakened. Whenever a creature infested with the cursed spores receives magical healing it must make a Constitution Save ( DC = 12 + half the HP restored ). Failure: The creature comes under the effect of awakened Verdenblight. If the spores aren't awakened, they die off once the creature finishes a Long Rest.
Cures & Treatments
Once infested with awakened Verdenblight, a creature must excise the blight through a strenuous life-draining ritual to wither away the cancerous plants. This ritual involves cleansing the infected’s life energy with necrotic power, an incredibly dangerous affair. While undertaking this ritual, if Witherwood Sap and Kheper Salt aren't used in conjunction, the subject must make a DC 12 Constitution Save. Failure: The Verdenblight is not excised and the target is reduced to 0 HP. Success: The Verdenblight withers and peels off the subject in sickly clumps.
