You see a colossal bird, its body sheathed in glistening scales that reflect light like shards of polished metal. Wings unfurl with a mix of feathers and armored plates, and a hooked, tooth-lined beak curves menacingly forward.

Origin
The Dragon Hawk is an unnatural abomination, the twisted result of a reckless mage’s experimentation. By combining the essence of a Dragonoid—a creature brimming with raw draconic power—with the unborn egg of an Owlbear, the mage gave life to something both wondrous and terrifying. When the egg hatched, a scaled, monstrous bird emerged, majestic in appearance but fueled by an insatiable, violent hunger. Delighted by his creation’s sheer power, the mage named it the “Dragon Hawk,” but soon, even he could not control the beast’s boundless aggression.

Appearance
A Dragon Hawk is an imposing creature that resembles a vastly oversized hawk with distinct draconic features. Its body is layered in thick, shimmering scales, providing protection far superior to ordinary feathers. These scales reflect light with a metallic sheen, ranging from fiery reds and molten oranges to deep greens or shadowy blacks, depending on the Dragonoid essence used in its creation. Its wingspan is massive, capable of blotting out the sun as it soars above, and each wing is a blend of hardened scales and strong flight feathers, granting both grace and defense in the air.

Its head is a fearsome hybrid: a raptor-like beak lined with needle-sharp, draconic teeth, and glowing reptilian eyes that burn with a hunger that never seems sated. The creature’s talons are razor-sharp, capable of puncturing armor and snatching prey mid-flight.

Behavior and Instincts
From the moment it hatches, the Dragon Hawk is defined by an unending hunger and an aggressive disposition. It quickly grows in size, its appetite driving it to hunt and feed on any creature it can overpower. It attacks with reckless abandon, showing little regard for its own safety, often fighting to the death if challenged by a larger foe. This behavior makes the Dragon Hawk both a fearsome predator and a creature with a surprisingly short lifespan, as it willingly engages enemies far beyond its capability in the relentless pursuit of a meal.
When a Dragon Hawk grows large enough, its instinct to dominate and feed drives it to attack the very master who created it, a grim irony that ensures the mage who played god often pays for his ambition with his life.

Preferred Prey: The Grasswalker
While a Dragon Hawk will attack almost anything it encounters, it has a particular obsession with a creature known as the “Grasswalker,” a race of agile, Rabbitfolk who are often found in open meadows and forest edges. For reasons not fully understood, Dragon Hawks abandon any current hunt to focus entirely on tracking down these Grasswalkers, driven by an almost supernatural craving for their flesh. Despite this obsession, the Dragon Hawk’s success rate is low—only about 10% of its hunts for Grasswalkers end in a catch. The Rabbitfolk’s speed and cunning often outmatch the Dragon Hawk’s brute force, but the beast will stop at nothing to pursue them, leaving destruction in its wake.

Weaknesses
The Dragon Hawk’s most glaring flaw is its reckless nature. It charges into combat without considering the dangers, making it susceptible to traps, well-coordinated defenses, or opponents who can exploit its lack of strategy. Its obsession with Grasswalkers can also be used to lure or distract it, giving clever adventurers a chance to gain the upper hand.
