Most rolls in the game are required against another Target creature. These rolls use both
Skills of each
Target, and the result is a difference created from the
Caster to the
Targets.
Certain social rolls, even if the difference is met, the GM can decide, based on the difficulty required to achieve an outcome is not achieved even though the
Contesting Roll winner rolled higher.
The GM can apply modifiers as such as a guideline:
* Difficult: +5
* Very Difficult: +10
* Nearly Impossible: +15
* Impossible: +20Also the difference might determine the degree to which a Target succeeds in a more abstract roll, such as
Influence vs.
Empathy.
In general though, most time that a contesting winner wins a roll, the desired outcome takes place, at least to some degree.
Contesting Rolls made against the environment, are often against a Fixed
DC, or a
DC Roll. Once the
DC is met, the desired outcome is achieved.
When a status effect is applied, the Caster must meet or beat the target's roll or
DC. Half damage is applied when the
Caster does not meet the roll if this
Ability has this effect, however the status effects are never applied if the roll is not met.
By default, the Contesting Roll
Roll Result is
Hidden to prevent metagaming, and only visible to the
Game Master. The difference is revealed to the
GM determine the
Difficulty Class and to account for the
Target.
