Term
Theater of the Mind is considered to be where there is no battle board, or where the game takes place in the imagination of the players. Distances and Range can be more abstract and not as technical.
The GM can decide to run the game in Theater of the Mind at anytime. This sometimes helps if Player Characters go in a direction not planned for.
