Midas Curse

Curse

The Curse of insatiable greed condemns the afflicted to turn everything they touch into gold.

Effect

A creature cursed with the Midas Curse is burdened with the ultimate punishment for avarice. Anything they touch Turns to gold, including tools, objects, and even living beings. As a result:

  1. The creature cannot cast Spells that require material components, as all components turn to gold upon contact.

  2. Objects touched by the cursed creature double in weight and suffer additional complications.

Midas Reach

The afflicted can turn others to gold through direct touch:

  1. Attack: Make an Natural Weapon Skill against a creature.

  2. On a Hit: The Target must make a Fortitude vs Foritude.

  3. Failure: The creature is Petrifying as its body begins to Turn into gold.

  4. Success: The creature resists Midas Reach.

  5. On failing three saves, the creature is permanently Petrified in gold for years.

Transmission & Contraction

The Midas Curse cannot be contracted through natural means. Instead, it manifests through acts of absolute greed (GM’s discretion).

  1. When a creature commits an unforgivable act of avarice, they contract the curse upon touching a valuable object, turning it into gold.

  2. This punishment is often imposed by a divine entity as judgment.

  3. The only other way to gain the Midas Curse is through a Wish Fulfillment.

Cures & Treatments

There is no natural cure for the Midas Curse, but temporary relief and divine intervention may offer salvation:

  1. Remove Curse suppresses the curse for a number of days equal to half the Mana expended.

  2. Creatures Petrified by this curse can be restored with:
  3. Restoration, Major
  4. Remove Curse beating the original caster skill roll ( Bending Weapon Skill vs. Bending Weapon Skill.

  5. Divine Pardon: A cursed creature may seek forgiveness through an act of absolute generosity (GM’s discretion).

  6. If accepted, the gods lift the curse, potentially restoring all objects and creatures turned to gold.

GM Consideration

Introducing the Midas Curse too early in a campaign can drastically impact the in-game economy. Consider:

  1. Delaying its introduction until higher levels to prevent an overabundance of gold.

  2. Making the transformed material a worthless, rusted metal instead of pure gold.

You watch in horror as everything you touch turns to solid gold. Food, water, even your companions—now lifeless statues, shimmering with a cold, unyielding luster, trapping you in a gilded nightmare.
