The bug’s translucent, glass-like shell cracks open as your lips touch it. A jet of sizzling, acidic mucus sprays violently, targeting eyes, nostrils, and mouth with pinpoint precision, corroding everything it contacts.

The Potion Bug is a cunning ambush predator that disguises itself as a high-quality potion, blending seamlessly into treasure hoards, merchant stalls, or alchemy kits. Its hardened exoskeleton mimics the appearance of glass, with natural ridges and grooves resembling decorative etchings. The creature’s lid-like thorax even twists open like a real bottle, furthering the illusion.

Once an unsuspecting victim brings the Potion Bug to their lips, it reacts instantly, spraying a highly acidic mucus toward any exposed openings—mouth, eyes, or nostrils—quickly melting soft tissue and incapacitating prey. Unlike traditional mimics, the Potion Bug does not grapple its target but instead relies on its acid to weaken foes before scuttling away to digest its fallen prey in peace.

Some experienced adventurers claim that Potion Bugs can be identified by a faint chittering noise when jostled or by an unusual warmth to the touch. Alchemists have been known to hunt them for their potent acid, but handling one without protection is a deadly risk.
