Spell

You create a magical ward that protects up to 2,500 square feet of floor space, such as a 50-foot square, one hundred 5-foot squares, or twenty-five 10-foot squares. The warded area can be up to 20 feet tall and shaped as you choose. You can divide the area across multiple stories of a structure, as long as each area is contiguous and you can walk through it while casting the spell.

When casting the spell, you may choose specific individuals who are unaffected by some or all of the ward’s effects. You may also set a password that, when spoken aloud, makes the speaker immune to the chosen effects.

The spell creates the following effects within the warded area:

  1. Corridors: Fog fills all warded corridors, making them heavily obscured. At intersections or branching paths, creatures other than you have a 50% chance of believing they are traveling in the opposite direction from the one they chose.
  2. Doors: All doors in the warded area are magically locked, as if sealed by Arcane Lock. You may also cover up to ten doors with illusions, making them appear as plain sections of wall.
  3. Stairs: Webs fill all stairs from top to bottom, as the Web spell. If burned or torn away, the webs regrow after 10 minutes while the ward remains active.
  4. Flickering Lights: Dancing lights appear in four corridors. You may give them a simple repeating pattern that lasts for the spell’s duration.
  5. Walls that Speak: Magic Mouth is placed in two locations.
  6. Smelling Chambers: Stinking Cloud appears in two locations you choose. If the vapors are dispersed by wind, they return after 10 minutes while the ward remains active.
  7. Windy Castle: A constant Gust of Wind fills one corridor or room.
  8. Room of Whispers: Suggestion is placed in one area up to 5 feet square. Any creature that enters or passes through that space receives the suggestion mentally.

The entire warded area radiates magic. If Dispel Magic is successfully cast on a specific effect, only that effect is removed. You can make the ward permanent by casting this spell in the same structure every day for one year.

You gesture over the area; arcane symbols shimmer and weave around the 50-foot square space. Magical barriers form, radiating protective energy up to 20 feet tall, transforming the landscape into a fortress of impenetrable wards.
