When open, this large, lacquered coffer has three compartments. The larger one contains fine clothes, a small leather pouch, and, from the smell, soap wrapped in rushes. One small section holds an open-topped tray with paper, pens, ink, a stick of red wax, an oil lamp, and clay flasks. The other small compartment contains leather-wrapped cylinders—cases for scrolls or maps.
