Your skin ripples into layered scales, each shifting like wet glass under sunlight. Color floods and drains across your body in slow waves. Your tongue coils heavy in your mouth, coiled like a spring waiting to snap outward.

Overview

A colossal arcane construct-skin creature born from chameleon stock spliced with draconic essence. Originally designed by a paranoid wizard to guard a jungle tower, the Giant Chameleon is a living ambush system—silent, patient, and disturbingly intelligent in its hunting behavior.

Origin

Forged in isolation, the wizard combined jungle-dwelling chameleons with harvested draconic tissue, binding the result through layered transmutation rites. The intent was simple: create a guardian that could watch unseen paths and eliminate intruders before they reached the tower steps.

The experiment succeeded too well. The first confirmed victim was the wizard himself.

Physical Description

A Giant Chameleon is the size of a large carriage-drawn beast, with a hunched, muscular frame and limbs built for slow, deliberate climbing. Its skin is a shifting lattice of scale-fibers capable of bending light and refracting color until the creature appears partially or fully absent from sight.

Its eyes rotate independently, often appearing as floating glints in the air when cloaked. Beneath its jaw sit multiple folded tongue-sacs, not just one—each capable of launching with whip-crack speed to seize prey from surprising angles.

Camouflage & Stealth

The creature can dissolve into its surroundings until only faint distortions betray its presence. Unlike natural camouflage, its concealment behaves like a magical field layered over flesh—allowing it to mimic stone, foliage, shadow, or even empty space.

However, its disguise can be disrupted by sudden bursts of radiant or arcane light, briefly revealing the outline of something vast and wrong standing where nothing should be.

Most victims never realize it is there at all.

Behavior

The Giant Chameleon is not mindless. It waits for movement patterns, learns patrol routes, and selects targets that separate from groups. It prefers ambush from above or behind, striking without warning.

It consumes its prey whole when possible, using a vacuum-like tongue strike followed by powerful jaw compression. Witnesses describe multiple tongues striking at once from different angles, suggesting either duplication or a spreading mutation.

The Tower Incident

The wizard who created it was reportedly swallowed during a routine inspection. No struggle was recorded, no alarm triggered—only a brief disturbance in the air where the creature had been resting.

After that day, the tower grounds were never safely approached again.
