Mudpits are waterlogged depressions in terrain, often formed by rain or poor drainage, trapping travelers in thick, sticky mud. They pose risks of immobilization, injury from falls, or exhaustion; in adventures, crossing requires strength checks or tools like ropes to avoid sinking.
The mudpit sprawls as a sunken mire, its surface a deceptive sheen of rainwater veiling the glutinous ooze below. Thick, clay-heavy sludge clings to boots and flesh, sucking downward with relentless suction, strands of grass and debris matted into the quagmire's churned edges. Bubbles rise sluggishly from submerged hollows, releasing the sharp tang of decay as the earth devours what it claims.
